Shaker "Poplarware" Needlebook

Shaker "Poplarware" Needlebook

$55.00

Monday 1:30-3:30 & Tuesday 1:30-3—Merry Susan Schreck

The Shakers, an American religious group that flourished during the 1800s, created a unique material called poplar cloth ( literally woven wood!) and used it to manufacture needle books, pincushions, sewing boxes, and other items. Poplarware is no longer manufactured and poplarware items are highly sought by collectors. Join us to learn about the Shakers, the poplarware process, and these wonderful creations, as we replicate poplarware with an intermediate needle weaving technique. Class includes ALL materials needed to make the needlebook (stretcher bars/tacks, foundation fabric, needles, cotton and silk threads, interfacing, flannel, ribbon, real kidskin edging, and complete instructions).

Participants need to bring: scissors, magnification if needed, lighting if needed
